Deciduous

Deciduous shrubs and hedges are plants that shed their leaves during the Autumn and Winter.

These hedges can be pruned twice a year, best to prune the hedges when they are dormant so, before Spring or after Summer, before the frost sets in for Winter.

Nesting season starts around March time so, you may find nesting birds around your garden. We cannot undertake work on hedges containing nesting birds as it is an offence under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, to intentionally cause damage or distress to the wildlife.

If you prune your hedge after the Summer, make sure it's not too hot or dry, try to prune on a cloudy day to prevent the leaves and plant from burning.

Evergreen

Evergreen trees and hedges are the opposite to Deciduous plants, they retain their leaves and foilage throughout the year. These hedges can also be pruned at least twice a year, more frequent trimming can create a denser hedge.

If you notice your hedge start to brown or loose it's leaves then, it could be dying or diseased - make sure to get it assessed by an expert to prevent disease spreading to your other plants.

It's best to trim these hedges in early Spring; before nesting season or, early Autumn; before the Winter frost.
